We had lunch at Peaceful Bay on Saturday. We would not normally have ventured so far for a meal in the current circumstances but it’s coming up to the end of the financial year and we still have some fuel money left. I haven’t been out west for some time and hadn’t seen the ring road modifications around George Street, although I must have because we drove past that way a few months ago. I was surprised to see that the ring road goes under South Coast Highway, leaving George Street unchanged.
Coming down the hill past the reserve I might have copped a ticket. I was just switching from speed limiter to cruise control and in between flicking the switch and getting cruise control to engage I didn’t lift my foot off the accelerator. In speed limiter mode you need to have your foot on the accelerator to maintain your programmed speed. Anyway, the car sped up and then I saw the speed trap. I don’t know if they flash these days, perhaps they don’t. We will see.
Peaceful Bay was its usual self. We drove down onto the beach and wandered around for a little bit. I fell off a rock into the water because a wave had come in and filled the area with water. I got a little bit wet.
I also discovered that I much prefer to use a SLR rather than a phone camera because it’s very difficult to see the display in the direct sun. Perhaps I might think about getting an upgrade. My Canon is a bit elderly now.
We ordered snapper and chips which were very tasty and very expensive; our little meal cost nearly $130. On the way back we stopped at the distillery/toffee factory and bought icecreams. Honestly, I like the ice cream from the shop in York Street better. The Mint choc ice cream I had had choc pieces that were not particularly sweet and crumbled into mealy fragments like bits of rotten bark. I didn’t notice whether they had the soft serve icecream which is what I wanted to get all along. Perhaps I simply bought the wrong icecream.
We took the lower Denmark Road back into town. It’s a pleasant little drive. I was interested to see that the ring road doesn’t join the Denmark road, but stays on the other side of the railway. I knew that traffic from Denmark came in through the south roundabout and over the overpass but I’d never driven it myself.
So it turned out to be a pleasant day and I guess I don’t have much more to say about it.
