Fixed Me Sunnies

Many years ago, like maybe 13, I was sitting in the restaurant at Cicerellos when my sunglasses dropped onto the concrete floor and cracked one of the lenses. They were unserviceable but I kept them because I… was an idiot who didn’t want to throw away a $300 pair of sunnies.

Well, just recently I thought to myself, I wonder if I can get them repaired and I’m not sure why that thought never occurred beforehand at any time in the past 13 years. Well, first I wondered whether the make and model was still being manufactured as I was interested in the current price, As it happened they were still available after all this time. That was when I started thinking about getting replacement lenses.

A short internet search later turned up a manufacturer who makes replacement lenses for a whole pile of different sunglasses and mine were on the list. I sat on the information for a while and then thought, why not, let’s do it.

I ordered a pair of polarised lenses and it took maybe 10 days or so for the lenses to arrive, but arrive they did. Replacing the lenses was easier than removing the original lenses; they simply popped straight into the frames. Perhaps the plastic is not quite as thick as the originals, which, if that’s true, could make sense given that people will be trying to fit them without any specialist equipment. After a quick wipe over, for the price of $50 I had sunnies again.

So that’s the rather pointless story of how I fixed my sunnies and once again proves the point that you should never throw anything away.
